CAN bus cables for the automotive industry and in automation technology

CAN bus cables have been designed for the serial Controller Area Network bus system. In the 1980s, this network was developed for the automotive industry to reduce the total length of industrial cables.

CAN bus cable specifications

As per ISO 11898-2 a, CAN bus wires have a wave impedance of 95 to 140 ohm. Their transmission rate may be up to 1 Mbps (at a wire length of 40m). The material for their cable sheath is chosen depending on their temperature range and other ambient conditions. The CAN bus cable colour and/or sheath colour is purple. The bus wire is halogen-free, UV-resistant, oil-resistant and can be installed as an outdoor cable.
