Cable specification and cross-section: What does the type abbreviation "H07RN-F" in the context of cables and wires mean?
The letters and numbers of the type abbreviation of H07RN-F cables provide information on their design and intended use. "H" indicates that it is a harmonised cable, "07" represents the maximum permissible current carrying capacity of H07RN-F cables, which are approved for a nominal current of 450 V between the conductor and underground or for a nominal current of 750 V between the conductors of the same cable. The rubber core isolation is expressed by "R", the rubber sheath isolation by "N". The affix "-F" to H07RN indicates that it is a fine-stranded rubber cable.
The number of cores and the conductor cross-section in mm² can be found in the subsequent information. For example, the H07RN-F 5x4 cable has five cores and a cross-section of 4 mm². From the "x" between the two numbers it can be concluded that it is a cable without protective conductor. However, if there is a "G" between the number of cores and the cross-section, the cable has a green yellow protective conductor.

Properties and installation of H07RN-F cables and wires
Fine-stranded cables of the type H07RN-F have a bare copper wire and a rubber core isolation, the sheath material is also made of rubber. The rubber cables have the following properties:
• Non-flammability
• UV resistance
• Resistance to cold
• Oil resistance
• Ozone resistance
Due to these properties, H07RN-F rubber cables can be used as outdoor cables if the mechanical stress is average, however, they are also suitable for installation in dry, moist and wet rooms. The cables and wires can be installed fixed, freely or in cable ducts. H07RN-F cables are particularly suitable for fixed installation on render, machine parts or lifting devices.
