Using H05RN-F as a connection cable

The oil-resistant and flame-retardant H05RN-F rubber cables are mainly used with low mechanical stress for the connection of electrical appliances at home, and are suitable for installation in dry, damp and wet rooms. Workplace decorative lights in office rooms are often connected with this rubber connection cable. The cables may also be laid permanently, for example in furniture or decorative sheaths. Thanks to their wide operating temperature range from -25 °C to +60 °C, H05RN-F type cables can also be used outdoors, for example as connection cables for garden appliances. However, rubber cables of this type are not suitable for permanent outdoor use. For this purpose, you can use, for example, H07RN-F – besides many other cables.

What does the type abbreviation "H05RN-F" in the context of cables mean?

The letters and numbers in the type abbreviation of H05RN-F already provide plenty of information about the plastic cables: "H" means that it is a harmonised cable, "05" gives the rated voltage of the H05RN-F cables. In this case, it is permitted to have a 300 V rated voltage between the wire and earth or a 500 V rated voltage between the outer conductors of a three-phase system. The nature of the core isolation from a rubber compound is represented by "R", while "N" stands for a sheath compound made of rubber. The affix "-F" delineates that the conductors of the H05RN-F flexible rubber cable are made of fine-stranded copper braid. The number of cores and the conductor cross-section in mm² can be found in the specifications that follow. The rubber cable with the specification H05RN-F 3G0.75 has three cores, a green-yellow protective conductor ("G") and a cross-section of 0.75 mm².
The core specification varies according to the number of cores:
• One core to 2 cores: no protective conductor, indicated by an "X" in the type abbreviation, e.g. H05RN-F 2X1
• From three cores: Green-yellow protective conductor required
• Up to five cores: Various colours (in accordance with DIN 0293)
