What does the cable designation NAYY stand for?
The term NAYY denotes the type designation of the high-voltage cable. This designation uses letters to provide information about the material and construction of the individual parts of the cable. The first letter, ‘N’, indicates that it is a cable conforming to the national VDE standard. The ‘A’ stands for aluminium, as the cable uses aluminium as its conductor material. ‘YY’ is an abbreviation for PVC insulation of the core and PVC sheathing. The NAYY low-voltage cable is also distinguished between ‘-J’ and ‘-O’, with the former denoting a cable with a protective conductor and the latter a cable without a protective conductor.

What do the abbreviations RE, RM, SE and SM mean in relation to NAYY cables?
NAYY cables also use abbreviations to specify the conductor shape and class: RE, RM, SE, SM. The ‘R’ is always used for a round conductor shape and the ‘S’ for a sector-shaped conductor. The second letter indicates the conductor class. ‘E’ stands for a single-strand conductor and ‘M’ for a multi-strand conductor. This results in four different abbreviations:
RE: round conductor, single-strand
RM: round conductor, multi-strand
SE: sector-shaped conductor, single-strand
SM: sector-shaped conductor, multi-wire

Properties of NAYY cables
The NAYY cable is an underground cable that complies with the VDE 0276-603 standard and features aluminium conductors.
The core insulation is made of PVC (DIV 4 compound), whilst the sheath is made of black PVC (DMV 5). Our NAYY underground cables are flame-retardant in accordance with VDE 0482-332-1-2/IEC 60332-1-2 and UV-resistant, making them ideal for outdoor use.
With an operating temperature range of at least -5°C to 70°C, and a maximum permissible conductor temperature of 70°C, these cables are suitable for fixed installations. We offer both NAYY-O and NAYY-J cables in various sizes with a rated voltage of 0.6 kV (Uo) and 1 kV (U).
