The abbreviation NYCWY is the type code for a power cable. The individual parts tell you about the material and design of each cable component. The primary feature is the first letter “N”, specifying that it is a standard line according to the national VDE standard. The other letters provide information about the cable structure. From inside to outside, they specify the core insulation and other attributes. The added numbers also show the strand count and their cross sections. The power cable’s type code already provides information about the essential aspects of the NYCWY structure. The structure specification starts with the inner part of the cable and goes from the conductor and/or core to the outer sheath, using the designation NYCWY. Accordingly, the first Y stands for the core insulation material and the second letter for the outer sheath material.
